Choosing the right month changes your experience at the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark. The water levels at the waterfall and the valley conditions at Angel Eye Mountain shift dramatically between the dry and rainy seasons.

What is the best time to visit Ban Gioc Waterfall?

September and October provide the ideal balance of high water volume and clear conditions.

During these two months, you avoid the heavy flooding of the summer. The surrounding valleys and rice terraces turn a golden color for the harvest season. The water runs clear and strong, giving you an excellent view of the 300-meter-wide cascade.

What is the waterfall like in the dry season?

From October through May, Ban Gioc features calm, clear turquoise waters.

The dry season means lower water volume over the 30-meter limestone cliffs. This makes for peaceful bamboo raft rides. Over at Angel Eye Mountain, the valley beneath the 50-meter circular hole dries out completely, leaving a wide grassy meadow.

What happens during the rainy season?

June through August brings massive brown water flows to the Quay Son River.

The waterfall is highly powerful during the summer, but the water turns muddy brown from the heavy rains. If you visit Angel Eye Mountain during this time, the grassy meadow transforms into a temporary lake.

Is Cao Bang accessible year-round?

Yes, the roads to the waterfall and geopark remain open all year.

While you can always reach the site, heavy summer rains can complicate travel. Sleeper buses take 6 to 8 hours from Hanoi to Cao Bang city. You will need another 2 to 2.5 hours to reach the falls. Pack a rain jacket if you travel in the wet season.

How does the season affect Angel Eye Mountain?

The season determines whether you see a lake or a meadow beneath the mountain.

Angel Eye Mountain sits 30 kilometers from Cao Bang City. During the dry season, you can walk or camp on the grass beneath the natural hole. When the summer rains arrive, you must check conditions as the valley rapidly floods.

When is the Nam Tra Waterfall visible?

Nam Tra Waterfall only flows well during the wet season.

This cascade is located near Angel Eye Mountain. In the dry months, it can dry up completely. If seeing both waterfalls at high volume is your priority, aim for September.
